“Did I tell you about my grandchildren?  Well, I have 13 grandsons—counting baby Luke, and only one granddaughter!”.  If you have ever had a conversation with Sandra, you would immediately know that her family was precious to her!  Affectionately known as Sandy, San-Ti, Nano, San San, Mama, Granny Mama J, and Gran-Gran; Sandra Jeanette Parnell Johnson was truly loved by all.
She was born into this world on July 27, 1945 and went to her heavenly home with Jesus on June 17, 2016.  Her parents were Grover Curtis Parnell and Hazel Hinton Parnell.  She was raised in Whistler, Alabama.  Her mama and daddy were paper mill workers.  Sandra was the oldest of three children.  Her brother “Buddy” Gary Curtis Parnell preceded her to Heaven in 2015.  His wife, Betty Parnell, still resides in Blairsville , Georgia.  Her baby brother is Charles Leon Parnell who lives with his wife Kathy in Virginia.
In 1963, Sandra met a Navy man, Willie Edward Johnson.  They courted a short time and had a romance through love letters!  When he completed his duty aboard the Kitty Hawk, they were married on August 7, 1964.  He worked at Scott Paper Company, and she soon became a certified medial assistant at Providence Hospital.  They had three children:  Debra Darlene Johnson White (Gordon), Edward Duane Johnson (Ciani), Bradley Aaron Johnson (Amy).  Sandy and Willie were happily married 40 years.  Their children can say they never recall a harsh word between them.
Sandra would say her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren who all love the Lord.  Sandra has nine grandchildren:  Derrick, Darren, Jennifer, Caleb, Zachary, Ryan, T.J., Kye, and Aiden.  Her 5 great grandbabies are Blaise, Collin, Judah, Jobie, and Baby Luke.

Sandra loved her life.  She loved to go to church, Sunday school, and gospel music events.  Her travels to the mountains were cherished memories.  She loved  home grown vegetables, cooking, a good romantic comedy, Karen Kingsbury books, and laughter.  We will always smile when we remember sweet, beautiful Sandra.

Visitation for Sandra will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home from 5 pm to 8 pm. Chapel services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 11 am. Interment will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.

The Gift of Life,

Life is a gift from God. Our children, family, friends, neighbors, and strangers are all gifts to be savored. Although some days may be full of hardship and sadness, each breath, heartbeat, and thought illustrates the beautiful gift of life. When a loved one is lost, try to avoid the feeling of being robbed or wronged. Keep the positive memories alive and thank God for the blessings in your past, present, and future.

Revelation 22:17 – Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
