Edward Alonzo Dees (Lonnie)
February 7, 1977 – September 19, 2023
Edward Alonzo Dees, 46, lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away September 19, 2023, at Springhill Memorial Hospital of preexisting conditions. Lonnie was born February 7, 1977. He was raised in Wilmer, Alabama. He attended and graduated from Mary G. Montgomery High school.
Lonnie knew from a young age what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to save people. He started this journey by volunteering at the Wilmer Fire Department, this led him to the County 20 ambulance service, which eventually helped him find his home at Newman’s ambulance service. Being a paramedic was not only a career but was his calling. He dedicated his life to his work until he was forced to retire due to his health.
Lonnie enjoyed cooking, music, travel, shopping, The Hunt for Red October, and lights. Some of you may have sighed on the last two. Me too. That just means he cared enough about you to make you “enjoy” the movie for the hundredth time or he installed flashing lights on your car or lawn mower. He had an abundance of love and gifts to share with the world. This showed in so many ways throughout his life. His love could be seen with wife of 25 years, family, and friends. The only ones to come second to his wife were his children. He adored Rugrat, Munchkin, and all the ones that came before. No doubt he has been reunited with them. Whether you experienced his love and kindness as family, friend, or stranger he always had more to give.
Lonnie fought until the end. I am reminded of a quote from a Dylan Thomas poem, “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” And rage he did until that good night made its final call.
He was preceded in death by his father; Edward Dees, mother; Monica Dees, and brother; Brad Corley.
He is survived by his wife; Heather Dees, sons; Rugrat and Munchkin, sisters; Donna Alexander and Sheila Johnson, brothers; Gregory (Jodi) Corley and Gary (Jeanie) Corley, sister-in-law; Sarah Corley, many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 11:00 - 12:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A funeral service will start at 12:00 PM with interment following in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
