It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gayle Jackson Miller Sr., of Wilmer, Alabama, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Born on October 1, 1938, to Damon Arthur Miller and Bess Brooks, Gayle lived a life rich in adventure, service, and love.
Gayle is survived by his sister, Sharon Miller Fontana, and brother-in-law, Jean-Pierre Fontana. He leaves behind two sons, Gayle Jackson Miller Jr. and Damon Alfred Miller Sr., along with a cherished legacy of six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A dedicated public servant, Gayle spent six years with the Mobile Fire Department before embarking on a distinguished thirty-five-year career with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. His commitment to service extended beyond his local community, as he bravely served two years in Iraq as a subcontractor, a testament to his adventurous spirit and dedication to helping others. Though his time there was cut short due to an accident, his resilience and determination remained unwavering.
Gayle was a larger-than-life figure whose presence commanded attention and respect. He had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and his warmth and charisma drew friends to him wherever he went. It was not uncommon for him to encounter familiar faces even in the most unexpected places, a reflection of the deep bonds he forged throughout his life. His infectious laughter and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Throughout his life, Gayle often reflected on his experiences with gratitude, stating, “I lived a good life, and I would not change a thing.” His adventurous spirit and zest for life inspired those around him to embrace each moment fully.
