GEORGE THOMAS YOUNG
Born February 4, 1948 and passed peacefully at is home surrounded by his loved ones on January 14, 2022. He was a long-time resident of Eight Mile, AL. He was born and raised in Brewton, AL. He was a proud member of the Class of 1966 where he kept lifelong relationships with several of his classmate friends. He was a devoted & loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & son. He was a loving and caring friend to so many. He served valiantly in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. He was a loving husband to his wife of 46 years until her passing. He cherished his 2 children and 5 grandchildren and was a surrogate grandfather to so many and was affectionately known as “Ba”. He was an avid golfer and always on the golf course after retiring. He was a retired boilermaker of 30 years with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 112. During his career as a Boilermaker, he served as President of Local 112 for a term. He loved his sports and always watched football, baseball & golf. He loved his country, family, friends and all sports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane W. Young, brother, Stanley L. Bell, Jr., two sisters Connie Harcey & Sallie Borders, Father, George T. Young, Sr & mother, Sallie Ann Ashley Young and biological mother, Clara M. Bell.
Tommy is survived by his children; Stephen C. (Mary) Young, Kelly Brooke Young (Chris Sasser), Five grandchildren; Paxton E. Young, Thomas R. Bryars (gf Katherine Morton), Genesis R. Young, Lauren Diane (Slayden) Pearce and Stephen C. Young, Jr. three sisters; Ramona Dunn, Kathy Jo (David) Pate & Cathy (David) Holmes, Numerous nieces and nephews and great lifelong friends. He leaves to cherish a very special woman who was like another daughter to him, Martha LaForce. He adored one little girl who stole his heart from birth 5 years ago, Mahaylie Lynn Sanders who he called “his little sweetheart” and she adored her Ba just as much. Ba also leaves to cherish wonderful relationships with all his “adopted” grandkids who he loved with all his heart & soul as if they belonged to him. The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Kindred Hospice and Lana Long, RN who took such special care of him and showed so much love and dignity and we are forever grateful for her. Tommy aka “Ba” will always be loved and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM in Valhalla's Chapel. Interment will follow in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
