It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Adele Baxter on January 20, 2025, at the age of 83. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, Maw Maw, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and love.
Born on November 19, 1941, in Mobile, AL, Janet was the daughter of Wilbur James and Bessie Mitchell Smith. She grew up in Mobile, AL and went to marry Hilton "Buddy" Baxter. She was a proud member of Georgetown United Methodist Church.
Janet had a deep love for animals, which brought her immense joy throughout her life. She was known for her great kindness. No matter who was or what you looked like, including all animals, she brought joy and warmth to those around her.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Judy Denmark and Jane Turner; grandchildren, John (Kristie) McNair, Jared (Lisa) McNair, Joshua McNair, and Catelin (Dennis) Reed; one sister, Dottie (Jim) McClurg; eight great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; her beloved animals, Holly, Bubba, Pooh Bear, Sassy, Dolly, and countless friends and loved ones who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur James and Bessie Mitchell Smith; husband, Hilton "Buddy" Baxter; brother, David Smith; and her beloved animals, Princess, Blackie, Shelby; her horse Trigger, and many more.
A service to honor Janet's life will be held at Georgetown United Methodist Church on January 28, 2025. Family visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle AL.
In this time off sorrow, we find comfort in the countless beautiful memories Janet left behind and in the profound impact she had on so many lives. She will forever be a part of us. Janet's life was a testament to her unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to others. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
