Jerome Nicholson Obituary

Jerome Richard Nicholson

August 08, 1946 - October 29, 2022

On October 29, 2022 Jerome, affectionately known to everyone as "Joe" finished all of his life's chores and now is fishing on Heavens shores. The view is beautiful, and the fishing is great, but most importantly Mary no longer has to wait! Reunited with his darling of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth Robinson Nicholson. Joe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after battling a lung disease and cancer for years.

Joe served in the US Army as a sharpshooter, infantry radio mechanic, and field radio relay repairman. He served his country during the Vietnam war. He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal for Korea, the National Defense Service medal, and the Good Conduct medal Class Bronze. He finished his career in the military as the Communications Chief. He and his soulmate, Mary, always known to him as "My Darling" had three children and following his time in the military settled down in Mobile, AL. He had a very strong work ethic often working 16–18-hour workdays. He built their home, constantly moving walls and remodeling to please his darling. He wanted his children to have an in-ground swimming pool and dug most of the pool with a shovel and very little help. He was not afraid of hard work. He loved his career as an electrician working in the field for more than 37 years, he owned a local electrical company, "Nicholson Electric". He worked at Courtland's Fibers in Axis, Al as the maintenance supervisor until they closed their doors. He and Mary then moved to their fish camp in Demopolis, Al where he worked at South Fresh Feed as the Maintenance Director of Operations. Upon his retirement, they moved back to Mobile, Al to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

His strong work ethic paled in comparison to his love for his family. He always made time for fishing, camping, bonfires, and helping others. He is most remembered for his compassion, gentleness, and humility. There was nothing he could not do, often he was called a "Jack of all trades". His children, neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family have all experienced his kindness. From loading up his lawn mower and coming to cut their grass to changing oil in their cars to buying a car for someone not even in his family to go back and forth to work, for now he is saving a spot on the rivers bend, for all of those he called family and friend.

He leaves behind those still baiting their hooks; his son; Rick (Barbara) Nicholson, two daughters; Jessica (Thomas) Crone, and Melissa (Chris) Adams, grandchildren; Joey Nicholson, Casey (Kaitlynn) Nicholson, Caitlin Alberto, James Nicholson, Cheyenne Nicholson, Joshua (Miranda) Nicholson, Carleigh (Corley) Soutullo,  Makenna (Jake) Musgrove, Logan Adams, great grandchildren; Graceigh Soutullo, Grayson Soutullo, Rosie Kate Soutullo, Remi Elizabeth Soutullo, Tatum Musgrove, Dawson Nicholson, Weston Brown, Emily Nicholson, two grand fur babies that he loves, Jackson and Nala, two bonus daughters; Dana Carney and Christina Holland. He was "daddy" and "paw paw" to so many other bonus kids who came through his home and were treated as his own.

Waiting for him on the beautiful shore, where separation is to be no more are those who preceded him in death. Hs darling of 57 years of marriage, Mary Robinson Nicholson. His parents, Virgil and Pauline Wilkerson Nicholson, his brother; Charles Nicholson, his best friend and fishing buddy; Danny Reagan and a host of other family and friends.

Now for those he left behind he would want you to head out to sea, cast your rod in his memory. If the fish seem to no longer bite and life seems not worth the fight. If you mourn for him because he is missing' always remember he has just gone fishin'

Pall Bearers; Jackie Robinson, Billy Robinson, Jeff Fuller, Scott Carpenter, Charles Nicholson, Jr. and Casey Nicholson.
