Mrs. Jerri McCoy, age 62, and resident of Mobile, passed from this life to her heavenly home on July 17, 2022.
Jerri was born on January 18, 1960, in Lakeland, Florida, to S.W and Leller Shirey. She grew up in her beloved hometown of Auburndale, FL, where she graduated from Auburndale High School in 1978 (Go Bloodhounds!) She left Florida in 2000 to support her husband, Marty, as he served as a Pastor in Bogalusa, LA and eventually they settled in Mobile, AL, at Schillinger Road Baptist Church. In addition to being a pastor’s wife she worked at Wal-Mart, which she retired from in 2013 after 23 years of dedicated service.
Those who knew Jerri the best knows there were few things she loved more than the Florida State Seminoles, watching her favorite crime show—Law and Order: SVU, and anything to do with animals. For many years, she was known to rescue cats and partner with her local vet clinic to have them spayed and neutered. She would always say she wanted to “release them”, but most of the time she took them into her fold and gave them a place to call home.
Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, S.W. and Leller Shirey, her grandparents, Jack and Pearline Sutton and S.S and Mattie Lou Shirey and her nephew, Joe Shirey.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Marty McCoy, daughter Kristy King and her husband, Derrick King, both of Semmes. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Mary Shirey, of Lake City, FL, and nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Aron, Justin, Josh, Stephen, Harley, and Cadence Shirey. Last, but never least, she is survived by her beloved cats, Dink and Callie and grand-pets, Allie and Remi.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Amy Woodward and her nurse Karen, as well as the staff at Saad’s Hospice Retreat for their loving care.
Visitation will be held from Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 11:00 - 12:00PM. Chapel service starts at 12:00, with Interment following in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
