Joanne Cotton

   Joanne Brown Cotton, age 83, a resident of Saraland, AL, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2023. Joanne was born in Oakland, CA, April 11, 1939. She was co-owner of Cotton’s Furniture and Video Store in Mt Vernon, AL.   After retirement she missed the daily interaction with people and went to work at Walmart in Saraland until she officially retired at the age of 70. She will be remembered as the mischievous redhead that always had a joke for everything. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, James (JJ) Cotton; a very special friend, Larry (Skeet) Lacey; parents, Elouise Haig and Carl Brown; daughter, Marsha Anne Weaver and son, Johnny Sanders; sisters, Dorothy Jordan and Billie Jean Gordan, brother, Buddy Brown.       

   She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Haskew and Beverly Newburn, brother, Butch Brown; grandchildren, Kristie Ebert, Miranda Hill, Mark Weaver and Joseph Weaver, step-son, Randy Cotton and a very special daughter-in-law, Angel Cotton, as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.   

   A special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff of Mobile Infirmary and Kare-in-Home Hospice as well as Allen Health and Rehab for their outstanding care, support and compassion in her final days.

   A graveside service will be held at Valhalla Memorial Gardens on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 1:00pm.
