John Hewett Obituary

   John Thomas Hewett, age 83, who most all knew as Tommy passed away in the early morning of Saturday, October 14, 2023. He was a resident of Eight Mile, Alabama and was born in Chatom, Alabama to James Edward and Mary Ethel Hewett on March 23, 1940. He was preceded in death by his loving wives Mildred D. Hewett and Nancy A. Hewett. 

   Tommy was a United States Air Force veteran and worked as a civil engineer at the Alabama State Highway Department for over 30 years before retiring. He loved spending time and having long conversations with friends and family. He loved old westerns, watching wrestling and movies, and his gun collection. He was a long-time scout master in the Boy Scouts of America where he had such a positive influence on so many young men lives over the years. In his most recent years, his very favorite thing was playing with and taking care of his little dog Cocoa. 

   He is survived by his sons; John E. Hewett, Billy Joe (Terri) Sewell, and James E. (Faye) Sewell, his stepson; Adam (Mary) Helveston, stepdaughters; Terri (Mike) Williams, Sherri Bohannon, and Toni Coffey, brother; Sonny Hewett and sister; Brenda Ann (John) Knight. Lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Valhalla Funeral Home beginning for family at 10am, friends at 11am, and the Memorial Service following at noon.
