John M. Loper Sr., 70, of Chunchula, Alabama, passed away on March 2, 2026. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, family, and a passion for racing.
John spent his career working as a mechanic, a trade he took great pride in. Known for his skill, dedication, and willingness to help others, he built a reputation as someone who could fix just about anything. Outside of work, John found his greatest joy in drag racing and spending time around the track with his sons, sharing his love for racing and building memories that will be cherished for generations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nora Loper, and his sons John Loper Jr., Don Loper, and Ron Loper. He was a proud grandfather to Lance Loper, Trevor Loper, Cadence Loper, Ron A. Loper, and Benson Loper. He was preceded in death by his grandson Caleb Loper, who passed away on March 9, 2024.
John is also survived by his mother, Jaunita Poole, and his siblings Beverley Middleton, Shirley Schexnayder, and Jack Loper. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Loper, and his brother, Ronnie Loper.
John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of racing, and his deep love for his family and the time he spent in the garage, at the track, and with those closest to him created memories that will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a chapel service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
