Mae Tanner Obituary

Mae Brannan Tanner, 93, a resident of the Tanner Williams Community, died on Friday, October 16, 2020. Born on November 9, 1926, she was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile County Alabama. The daughter of the late Arnold Milton and Myrtle Ford Brannan, she was raised in the Wilmer Community and was graduated from Wilmer High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Cecil O. Tanner; her sisters: Luverne Brannan Evans, Barbara June Brannan, and Eunice Brannan Harrison, and brothers: A. Mallory Brannan, Calvin L. Brannan and Greydon O. Brannan; son in law, William C. Berry and granddaughter, Abigail Korver. Throughout her years she was always an active member in her church and participated in the choir with her beautiful alto voice. She was also an active member of many local and statewide agricultural, farming and timber organizations and their auxiliaries. Other favorite activities included bluegrass festivals across the southeast, hosting the Cystic Fibrosis Halloween party, and helping her husband manage the Tanner farm.

Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought her much joy and whenever family was around, she made sure everyone was cared for and well fed. She was smart, witty, and always loved a good story. Her life, her story, was one of the best. She is survived by her children, Gordon O.Tanner (Robert) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Carol Tanner Barry of Mobile, AL, Cecile Tanner Haddock of Northport, AL, Marcia Tanner Korver (Bill) of Fayetteville, NC, and Ruth Tanner Sheffield (Duane) of Atlanta, GA.
