Mary Elizabeth Nicholson
To be absent in this world is to be present with Jesus, the world lost a warrior who answered her call to come home. On Saturday, August 14, 2021 at home surrounded by her family and friends Mary Nicholson heard her Savior say, “well done my good and faithful servant!”
Mary who was affectionately known as “momma,” “MawMaw” or “Sissy” to those who loved her was born on June 14, 1947 in Meridian, Mississippi. She was blessed with a lifetime of love with 57 years of marriage to her husband, Jerome Nicholson. They began dating at age 14 and married at age 16 and slipped briskly into an intimacy like none other. Always known as “Darling” to him, they provided a legacy of love and commitment to the three children of their own and the many others that they raised. She moved to Mobile, AL in 1974 after traveling with her husband as a military wife. Throughout her entire life she gave unselfishly to others through her kind, caring, and nurturing nature. She considered herself to be truly blessed by the love that surrounded her. She was an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was! She was always the first to offer help to those in need and she always ensured that every child who crossed her path was safe, healthy, and happy. She will always be remembered for feeding every belly that walked across her threshold into her home. If you did not eat your home cooked meal while you were there, she would pack you a take home plate for later. Her homemade cakes, full candy bowl, and “THE” snack cabinet kept the grand babies “all sugared up” when they visited.
Though her health was failing for years, few people knew of her struggles. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. She enjoyed blue grass gospel music and good ole pentecostal preaching. Her family grieves her loss, but takes great comfort knowing she is singing those gospel hymns she loved so much in Heaven.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Nicholson; Three children, Rick (Barbara) Nicholson, Jessica (Thomas) Crone, and Melissa (Chris) Adams; 14 Grandchildren, Carleigh (Corley) Soutullo, Joey (Brittany) Nicholson, Makenna (Jake) Musgrove, Casey ( Kaitlynn) Nicholson, Joshua (Miranda) Nicholson, Logan Adams, Caitlyn Alberto, James Nicholson, Cheyenna Nicholson; 10 Great-Grandchildren, Graceigh Soutullo, Grayson Soutullo, Rosie Kate Soutullo, Weston Brown, Dawson Nicholson, Addalyn Nicholson, Jaxon Nicholson, Carson Nicholson, Ethan Nicholson, and Emily Nicholson; 2 Brothers, Jackie (Libby) Robinson and Billy (Tricia) Robinson; 1 Brother-in-law, Charles ( Gloria ) Nicholson; 1 Sister-in-law and dear friend, Carolyn Robinson Raines; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
