Melba Darlene Alford, lovingly known as Darlene, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on June 6, 1940, Darlene was a woman of deep faith, unwavering love, and quiet strength. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was guided by her love for Jesus. A faithful member of Indian Springs Baptist Church, Darlene was a true prayer warrior—always lifting up others in prayer and pointing those around her toward God’s love and grace.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellsworth Alford, mother Flossie Lowe and Sister Patsy Gates and is now reunited with them in the presence of the Lord.
Darlene was the proud and loving mother of five daughters: Tena Hovel (Jerry), Melissa Miller (Terry), Vicki Barnes (Larry), Cheryl Ivy, and Velvet Alford. To her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild she was affectionately known as Nana, a name full of cherished memories, love, and comfort. Her home was a haven—filled with warmth, laughter and faith. Whether through her kind words, quiet wisdom, or faithful prayers, Darlene touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten. Her legacy lives on in her family and all those she poured into with her love and steadfast faith.
The visitation service to be held in her honor will be on Thursday, August 7, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday August 8, 2025, 12:00 p.m. Both services will be held at Indian Springs Baptist Church, 4241 Lott Road, Eight Mile, AL 36613.Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Gardens 8730 Sims Rd, Eight Mile, AL 36613.
