Michael Lee West Jr., 53, of Semmes, AL, a loved father, businessman and outdoorsman extraordinaire, passed away October 4, 2024, at Providence Hospital, where he was surrounded by his family and friends. Michael was born at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, May 16, 1971, to Michael Lee West, Sr. and Brenda Carpenter West, but called Semmes, Alabama home. He attended Mary G. Montgomery High School where he was active in social activities.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Lee West, Sr., his grandparents Buford Carpenter, Wauceil Langley Carpenter and Mary Frances Carpenter, “Grandmother”.
Michael’s passion in life was his family. He leaves his daughters, Tiffany Michelle and Terra Michael of Satsuma, AL; his beloved mother, Brenda Carpenter West of Semmes, AL; his brother, Craig West of Semmes, AL; his sister Cheryl (Jon) Hayes of Troutman, NC; his aunts, Janice Bennett of Atlanta, GA and Jewel Carpenter of Semmes and his uncle's Thomas (Tommy) Carpenter of Theodore, AL and C. Edward (Eddie) Carpenter of Semmes, AL. Nephews and niece; Chase, Lane, Camden and Sandy. Michael also leaves behind numerous cousins, extended family and friends who will remember his larger-than-life personality and his kind and generous heart. In keeping with Michael’s generosity and helping attributes, Michael’s final act on this Earth was to be an organ donor and provide the gift of life to others.
Michael had an entrepreneur’s spirit and excelled as a salesman, and various other jobs until he found his special place; Mike West Tree and Stump Removal, which he owned and operated for many years in the Mobile area. Michael was a friend to many, particularly his fishing and hunting partners and his work family. Michael loved to fish and hunt. He loved being on any body of water. Michael considered himself just a regular guy, but he lived his life as an extraordinary person. He was the first to offer help to family and friends, man the grill at Joe Cain Day, put on a fabulous tuxedo for Mardi Gras and celebrate the successes of his two daughters, Tiffany and Terra. He worked hard and played hard. His favorite saying was “It’s time to Show Up and Show Out”. You could always count on Michael to do both.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at Fountain of Life Church, 1277 Jubilee Drive, Saraland, AL 36571. The family welcomes donations to Donate Life Alabama as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
