Quitman Thompson Young Jr

    Quitman Thompson Young Jr., 88, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep while his precious wife held his hand. He was born in Mt. Vernon, AL. He resided in Lucedale, MS., and retired as a firefighter with the City of Mobile. After retirement, he went to sea as a Merchant Seaman for eleven years, his lifelong dream.

    He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Priscilla Elaine Young; one daughter, Peggy L. Saranthus (Billy); one stepdaughter, Norma G. Atchinson; two stepsons, Scott and Michael Garcia; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quitman T. Young Sr. and Isabella Knapp Young; brothers and sisters; and one son, Preston E. Young. 

    A service was held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. He is interred at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
