Shirley Haggard Obituary

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Shirley Haggard, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 84.

Shirley was a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of her life. She found strength and joy in God’s word, faithfully attended Pathway Church, and lived each day as an example of Christ’s love through her kindness, compassion, and unwavering belief. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and caring heart touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Through Jesus Christ, we take comfort in knowing that Shirley (Mamaw) has heard the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant,” and is now at peace in her heavenly home. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to inspire her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Shirley was born in Mobile, AL, on March 14, 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 55 years, George L. Haggard Sr. (Moe). Together, they built a home rooted in Christian values, raising their three children, Sherry Little (Ernie), George L. Haggard, Jr. (Lee Anne), and Greg Haggard (Amy). Shirley earned her cosmetology license, and together with her husband, they opened a beauty shop in Prichard, AL, for many years. Shirley found that her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She leaves behind her sisters, Mickie Wall (Jimmy), Grace Nobles (Phil), Sue Nobles (Doug), and Joyce Bolby (James); her grandchildren, Tiffney Pippin (Rondall), Greg Haggard Jr. (Jade), Cody Haggard, Matt Williams (Ashton), Nick Haggard, and Max Haggard; her great grandchildren, Samuel Kamphius, (Nikki Vardaman), Braelynn Haggard, Skylar Haggard, Remi Haggard, Masyn Pippin, Maddix Pippin, Marleigh Pippin, Kason Williams, Bryton Williams, and Valerie Williams; along with numerous nephews, nieces, close friends, and her precious church family. She also leaves behind her close and dear friend of many years, Bonnie Walker Shields.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to inspire us. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever treasured. Shirley loved being with her family more than anything; she enjoyed going to church, shopping, eating, and watching game shows. She will be remembered for her selfless heart, steadfast faith and the countless ways she cared for others.

Whether through a heartfelt phone call, a home-cooked meal, or a quiet prayer, she made others around her feel loved and valued. With every birthday card or Christmas card, she would sign her name and write “May the Lord bless you and keep you always”.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Monday, July 6, 2026, at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home. Family visitation will begin at 11:00 am, and public visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. The service will start at 1:00 pm in the chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow. And as Mamaw would say - “May the Lord bless you and keep you always”!!
