Thomas Eric Hester, age 64, was born in Portsmouth Norfolk County, Virginia and a resident of Chickasaw, Mobile County, Alabama and passed away Friday, August 14, 2020, in Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile, Ala. after being attacked by yellow jackets.
Mr. Hester has been a public service worker at Azalea City Golf Course since October 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Marines.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father, William Lloyd "Bill" Hester, Jr. and his son, Jason Nicholas Hester. Mr. Hester was also preceded in death by his faternal grandparents, Robert Lee McFerrin, Sr. and Jessie Mae Daniel McFerrin and his maternal grandparents, William Allen Daniel and Sara Ritha "Sally" Harrison Daniel.
Thomas is survived by his mother, Ruby Jean McFerrin Hester of Chickasaw, AL; his three brothers: W. Robert (Kathy) Hester of Greenville, TX, Richard L. Hester of San Jose, CA, and G. Alan Hester of Holly Hill, FL; his sister, Susan A. Hester Watts of Albertsville, AL; his daughter, Kourtney R. Hester Gipe, of Orlando, FL; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Memorial Hospital and also Eric's co-workers at Azalea City Golf Course for their efforts to save Eric.
Visitation will be held at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home, at 8730 Sims Rd., in Eight Mile on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 9 a.m. for the immediate family, and from 10:00 to 11:00 for family and friends, followed by a funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home and officiated by Max Woodruff. Interment will follow in Valhalla Cemetery with Brian Aaron, Stuart Adams, Bruce Dodd, Rob Hearn, Tony Miller, Carlos J. Soto, Carlos J. Soto, Jr. and George Vance as pallbearers.
