Truman Aughtman, 79, stepped into Glory on February 10, 2025. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all, Truman, was born the fifth of eight children to the late Ely and Lucille (Nee Houston) Aughtman on April 17, 1945, in Andalusia Alabama.
He served his country proudly in the Army from 1965-1967, where he was stationed in Germany and received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment. On November 24, 1976, he married the love of his life, Betty, and over the next 48 years, they built a life of loving service to those around them.
Truman was a good man with a strong work ethic and deep love for his family. He worked with his hands as a mechanic at Rester Brothers Honda for 23 years and later at Southern Brass for 6 more. In all he did, his big heart and love for others led all who knew him to love him. He loved Jesus and his family above all and was always willing to help anyone. His heart was for children and he and his beloved bride provided a stable home and lots of love to various relatives and friends who needed it over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ely and Lucille Aughtman; five siblings, Bobby Aughtman, Georgia Lee Lawson, Wayman Aughtman, Royce Aughtman, Linda Chenoweth; one great granddaughter, Briella Barber.
Through the years, they were blessed with 6 children, Lisa (Andy) Denham, Todd Aughtman, Paul (Deanna) Aughtman, Howard (April) Fussell, Stephen (Michele) Hughes, Mary (Todd) Walker; 12 grandchildren, Brittany (Johhny) Barber, Wesley Devenney, Alex Devenney, Braxton Roberts, William Aughtman, Jaxon Aughtman, Quade Fussell, Brooklyn Fussell, Stephen (Kyanna) Hughes, Laura Hughes, Kimber (Daniel) Spencer, Emma walker; 7 great grandchildren, Mircey (Ethan) Blanton, Braygen Barber, Elly Barber, Dalton Devenney, Camden Devenney, Aubree Devenney, Odin Devenney; 1 great-great grandchild, Mila Donnelly; his siblings, JoAnn Grissett and Larry (Carolyn) Aughtman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones left to cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held Friday February 14, 2025, at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00P.M. followed by a service at 12:00 P.M. officiated by family friend, Brother Ed McMillan. Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
